Post 218 Activities
Post 218 generally holds regular events on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 7 PM, and assists with EAA Chapter 838's Young Eagles on 2nd Saturdays at 8:30 AM.Â
Speakers
From airport inspectors to bomber crew chiefs and flight technology developers to firefighting pilots, our guest speakers offer insight into the many avenues of aviation-related vocations. These events are typically held at the EAA Chapter 838 building on the grounds of the Racine airport, but video conferencing technology allows us to connect with speakers from anywhere - including other countries!
Young Eagles
Every second Saturday (March through November), we have the opportunity to help share aviation with others. Young Eagles offers a chance for kids between 8 and 17 years old to learn about aviation and get a free flight from generous pilots. As Explorers, we help teach the class, escort families to and from the planes, and run the simulators when available. It’s also a great way for us to share our group with potential new members.
Tours
Have you ever wondered what they do up in those airport control towers? How about what it's like to spray down an airplane with the joystick-controlled hose on an airport fire truck? Post 218 members enjoy in-depth tours of aviation facilities, museums, and schools to get a closer look at how the aviation world works.
Every July, Post 218 attends the week of EAA's AirVenture Oshkosh. This annual celebration of flight includes thousands of aircraft, from kits built in a garage to cutting-edge developments in aerospace engineering. We camp for a week at the Aviation Exploration Base. During the day, we move aircraft or direct traffic, and we have free time to wander the vast grounds of AirVenture. AEB provides meals and activities, as well as connections with aviation professionals and even special tours.
